A Letter to Santa
By Jon Harrison
All I Want For Christmas Is……..(As Well As My Diploma)
Dear Santa
I would like to drop a few hints regards my Christmas presents………for a coach.
First request: Aston Martin DB9...and what has that to do with coaching you may ask? Well it means I can use it to go from venue to venue in comfort and style, which I'm sure you'll agree does set the scene and gets everyone talking
Second…. to actually attain the diploma ILM level 5. I have really got in to coaching. Not that I wasn't before but even more now. So I want it to continue and get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction out of it.
Thirdly….for me and my colleagues working in Sky, is for the company to embrace coaching a lot more. For them see what a powerful tool it can be in all aspects of our business and how we can develop not only ourselves but others.
Fourth…I would like to spend some time going around with an independent (self employed) coach to see how varied their coaching work life is, speak to their clients gain extra knowledge and hints and tips.
Fifth…put into practice what I am learning, get results and feedback, to use the training I have received and I have really enjoyed it: using different methods, being able to practice what we've learnt, ranging from some of the skills we already have to being able to try some of the new ideas.
Sixth…..again going back to my company…..I would like a coaching intranet site for us all to view and use. Some ideas floating around my head as regards content would be things like hints and tips, recommended reading/viewing, meet the coach, guest writers, success stories, pictures etc, also something like a questions column with other coaches sending in some advice or suggestions, virtual coach, a coaching 'Dear Deirdre'.
Seventh….To see someone do a 'Coaching for dummies' book…..they've done everything else.
Eighth………A Coaches ball, all those who had passed their diploma etc having a get together somewhere nice, like and all expenses trip to………..well you decide Santa. We can all swap stories, addresses & contact details so we can contact each other throughout the rest of the year.
Ninth…… To be recognised as someone who can coach, who will take time out, will be there to support, will listen and gain the respect from all, not just those clients I'm working with.
And finally…………………………..back to that Aston Martin………………….any chance of a fuel card and free insurance with it as well? Hey it's worth a try!
Have a very merry Coaching Christmas and a prosperous New Year
