Certificate of Performance in Business Coaching
Who is it for?
The Certificate of Performance in Business Coaching is an entry-level qualification that allows for study and practice of this emerging profession. It is adequately suited for team leaders, supervisors or managers and is designed to enhance their leadership style and managerial competence. It builds a significant platform for progression onto other coaching and mentoring qualifications.
The Programme (Two Days)
Two days of tutorial support (one month between each day) with a blend of tutor input, practical exercises and coaching practice. Candidates are introduced to a range of coaching tools and techniques as well as reflective tools to encourage reflective practice. There are publications and support materials included in the programme. There is a coaching self-assessment questionnaire between the two days along with coaching fieldwork with two clients. The key elements of the programme are:
• Understanding of modern business coaching concepts
• Key foundation models around Questioning, Listening, Promoting Action and Feedback
• Undertaking supervised coaching in the workplace
Assessment
The University of Strathclyde is proud of its heritage in both education and coaching. As such the assessment methodology is designed to meet the rigor and expectations of the assessors and external verifiers.
• Participants are expected to take around 20 hours to plan, research, organise and evaluate a period of coaching activity
• A Coaching Diary with records of coaching sessions and reflections
• A Personal Development Plan and Reflective Log

Notes for Coaches, Mentoring
by Peter Hill
Peter Hill’s “Mentoring” is a clear, concise, well laid out reference guide with good definitions of mentoring and coaching outlining the differences, similarities and overlaps. It is a very practical book for both mentor and mentee. I recommend it to anyone learning for the first time or seeking a refresher on mentoring, what the role of a mentor is, the skills of a mentor, how to manage the process as well as some case study examples of how some people use a mentor.
