Certificate of Professional Development in Executive Coaching

Who is it for?

The Certificate of Professional Development in Executive Coaching is an intermediate level qualification that allows for investigation, study and practice of this emerging profession. It is adequately suited to middle or senior managers and is designed to enhance their leadership style and managerial competence. It is aimed at the strategic areas of coaching whilst developing the tactical approach.

The Programme (6 Days)

Six days of tutorial support (one month between each day) with a blend of guided learning practical exercises and coaching practice. There is a coaching self-assessment and a 360° questionnaire between the workshops along with coaching fieldwork with three clients.
The key elements of the programme are:
• Greater understanding of modern business coaching concepts
• Key intermediate models around questions and statements, active and passive listening, promoting action and feedback
• Knowledge of psychological concepts, NLP and EQ connections, team coaching and core qualities
• Undertaking supervised coaching in the workplace

Participants are expected to take around 150 hours to plan, organise and evaluate an extended period of Coaching.

Assessment

The University of Strathclyde has determined a sturdy assessment methodology for the CPD programme.
There are three elements to the assessment and they are as follows:
• A Coaching Diary with records of coaching sessions and reflections on by the participant is assessed
• An open book exam answering 5 from 8 questions in three hours
• An interview* with a senior member of the Department of Lifelong Learning from the University

* This may be a group interview dependant on numbers.

Academic Supervision

There are 4 telephone supervision sessions attached to the programme. These are designed to support the guided learning that the participants receive on the tutorials and to support the completion of the assessed elements

Notes for Coaches, Mentoring

Notes for Coaches, Mentoring by Peter Hill

Peter Hill’s “Mentoring” is a clear, concise, well laid out reference guide with good definitions of mentoring and coaching outlining the differences, similarities and overlaps. It is a very practical book for both mentor and mentee. I recommend it to anyone learning for the first time or seeking a refresher on mentoring, what the role of a mentor is, the skills of a mentor, how to manage the process as well as some case study examples of how some people use a mentor.
