Ian Chisholm

Ian is a founding partner of The Roy Group – a consultancy focusing on emerging leadership in society. Ian is also a founding member of Re-Find the Future – a coaching and leadership development practice group with partners, Robert Henderson (former Motorola Vice President of Leadership and Organizational Development) & Mark Bell (former Human Resources Director for Boots, UK.)

The Roy Group invites its clients to recognize being a coach, not as an exclusive expertise or status, but as a strict and responsible discipline developed and used over a leader’s lifetime in community. This allows clients to be developed through coaching – not only by being coached but eventually also by serving others through coaching.

Originally hailing from Saskatchewan, Ian is a well-known coach, social entrepreneur, and educator in Europe where he guided the exciting operational start-up of the award-winning Columba 1400 Community and International Leadership Centre on the Isle of Skye. With Ian as its CEO and principled leadership development at the centre of its culture, Columba 1400 found integration in a small rural island village and a brand of excellence – in the community, corporate, and education sectors.

Since 2002, the organization has been patroned by HRH The Princess Royal.

In 2003, Ian was asked to lead a groundbreaking team for The Hunter Foundation and Scottish Executive, implementing the creation of a more entrepreneurial and leadership focused culture in Scottish education. The work of this team in coaching the leadership of school administrators (and creating a coaching network in which they coached each other) was researched to make a remarkably positive impact in the lives of attending Head and Deputy Head Teachers and indirectly touch the lives of thousands of young people in Scotland.

In 2004 he was named the first Fellow of Columba 1400.

Prior to his time in Europe, Ian served as the Director of Programs for Operation Enterprise – a division of American Management Association International headquartered in New York City, USA. There he played an integral role in pioneering an initiative to bring young talent from inner city USA to experience a regime of formal leadership development. Chisholm was instrumental in taking a site-based program to multiple venues across the U.S. and Canada.

Aligned with this background, Ian is the co-creator of The Gemini Project – an intensive leadership and coaching development program. The Gemini Project brings together senior executives with young adults from “tough” socio-economic realities.

Ian is married to Anne-Marie Daniel, an independent mediator and specialist in conflict resolution. Ian is a graduate of United World College – USA, The University of Alberta and Strathclyde University, Glasgow. Anne-Marie and Ian live with their family on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.
