Newsletter : February 2011

View From The Hill

I know we have arrived at a time where the greeting “Happy New Year” is petering out, but for those we have not seen yet we wish you a prosperous 2011. So another year and another set of opportunities!
This has coincided with our latest group of intrepid students starting their Continuing Professional Development Plans and we are now actively promoting the use of The EMCC’s European Individual Accreditation standard (EIA) for our CPD plans. This award is a real benchmark as far as coaching is concerned. It offers structure, diligence and professionalism to anyone in the field of coaching or mentoring. A number of our tutors are working towards it and the EMCC run local events to promote the award also. There are various tiers to aim for depending on your practice, qualifications and experience and they send a serious message of your intent to develop yourself and the profession.
Like most CPD platforms, it can be a bit daunting when you look at the paperwork involved. However our experience of working with the delegates has proven that it is easier than it looks and if you are studying for a qualification at the same time, it makes good pragmatic sense to do it then. The documents to track, record and register can be found at
On a final note, congratulations go to Tony Brewerton, who has just been confirmed as the ILM Learner of the year for Scotland. Tony completed the ILM Level 7 Coaching & Mentoring Diploma on our course in the West Midlands in 2010. Tony now competes in the National Lion Awards against winners from England, Wales and Ireland in the Roundhouse in London on 29th May 2011. More details on the awards and Tony in next month’s edition.

Have a good month.
