Profile
I now have the best part of 20 years experience working within various sales and customer relationship environments – starting in retail and telesales (the college years) and then onto Sales Consultancy, Account Management, Sales Management and now people development. My Training and Coaching remains within this field of expertise. Like many of my peers, I fell into training and coaching by accident and 7 years on, I still love the role, and enjoy the challenges and opportunities of working with different individuals in a productive, positive way to enable and empower them. In 2001 I joined a fabulous, dedicated training team in Standard Life – where I spent 4 years learning and growing both from experience and my peers. In 2005 I branched out to set up STAC Solutions Ltd, my own business. An exciting prospect that has ensured my ability to absorb and share new ideas and concepts to incorporate into my coaching and training.
What Inspired You to go into coaching?
I was inspired to develop my coaching skills whilst at Standard Life which has a very strong coaching culture and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to coach staff at all levels and take on the different challenges that provided.
Your Qualifications & Training
I am a qualified trainer with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, an accredited NLP Practitioner and Executive Coach (trained and accredited by CFM). But certificates are only part of the constant learning and study exploring speciality areas such as Performance Management, Team Development and so on.
Specialist Areas of Coaching
Mostly I have continued to coach in the area of business that I am most passionate about – Sales and believe that my background helps me to challenge, empathise and enthuse individuals to develop.
Recommended Reading
Honestly, I’m not a great reader of technical literature so I like short, simple writing that I can pick up and set down. My favourite for new coaches or coachees will always be “Max Landsberg, The Tao of Coaching”. Recently I’ve been working with Account Managers and have found “Neil Rackham’s Major Sales Strategy” really helpful with some great ‘client centric’ models and tools.
Greatest Coaching Moment
Working with the Chief Executive of a large IFA firm in London. He had a momentous ‘Aha’ moment that he still reminds me of – 3 years later. Mostly, coaching successes are more subtle.
What is Your Vision for Your Coaching?
To retain my passion for developing others and my belief that coaching is a must have ‘element’ of a person’s development.
Your Philosophy
That everyone can develop, grow and adapt, provided the impetus is relevant, inspiring and fun. You may think it strange to include fun as a description related to coaching but motivation to change has to come from interest and enthusiasm. Coaching shouldn’t be boring! - It wouldn’t do for the coach to fall asleep now would it?
