Background

My early career covered Human Resources, Sales, Training and General Management in the oil and gas service sector, public sector economic development and in business consulting.

What Inspired You To Go Into Coaching?

I was inspired to set up IC International 10 years ago by two events. The first was a training programme where we helped Women Entrepreneurs envision greater success for their businesses with phenomenal results; the second was meeting many top level executives and managers in business who appreciated having an external, objective, listener to help them through their challenges, goals, ideas and aspirations.
IC International was my inspiration to create a new way of working in business, with a key focus on helping our own team create the lives they wanted and, through coaching, to help our clients achieve the same. Being coached myself through my own life choices also contributed to my understanding and respect for the power of coaching.

I take a whole person approach and encourage people to stretch beyond their current boundaries, limitations, experience or perceptions.
I prefer to work with clients and leaders who are serious catalysts for change in creating a better world of work.
I have a particular interest in working with the top leaders of start-up companies who want to introduce new forms of leadership as a foundation for their success.

Greatest Coaching Moment

Early in my coaching career I ran a programme to develop coaching skills for Kazak National Supervisors. Working through a translator, I wasn’t sure how the concepts were being conveyed until, on the final day, one group of coaches summarised their learning with the following story:

“On the first day God created man. On the second day, he taught man to communicate which led to conflict. On the third day God taught them to deal with conflict – not to run away from it – but to take decisions and solve their problems. They realised they needed to work as a team and that they needed someone to help them. So on the fourth day God created a COACH! He put a baby coach on earth and told them if they LISTEN and OBSERVE they will grow into Lead Coaches”
(TCO Lead Coaches Programme, Atyrau, Kazahkstan, August 1998)

That programme is still run as part of the Supervisory Training in TCO ten years on.
I do believe that coaching unlocks something great in all of us – and yes maybe there’s a bit of divine intervention along the way. I call it inspirational: coaching which can breathe new life into our world.

What Is Your Vision For Your Coaching?

My vision for coaching is that, primarily through our Destination Coach programme (www.destinationcoach.com) we create an influential community of inspirational coaches who are committed to leading meaningful lives and helping others to do the same. My vision is for new-style organisations to emerge, using inspirational coaching as their basic form of leadership so that people’s spirits within those organisations are free enough to achieve the phenomenal success that lies within us all.

Philosophy

My philosophy is that coaching creates a new mindset in leaders that is vital for organisations of tomorrow. Through inspirational coaching, leaders learn a new way of understanding themselves and of relating to others. This opens up their capacity for creativity, innovation, and success. With coaching, we can trust that greater and more sustainable results will be achieved, when we stop trying to fix and control the people in our teams and shift to listening to and unlocking their real gifts.

Eddie Cochrane, Executive Development Manager
University of Edinburgh Management School

University of Edinburgh Management School " Recent research suggest that providing individuals with specific feedback on their own personal strengths, weaknesses and personality profile can make the single most contribution towards organisational performance. Building on this model we have successfully delivered Coaching Skills for all our Full-time and International MBA students using Peter as the key facilitator. Not only have students found this extremely valuable but the Edinburgh MBA has recently risen to 7th in the Financial Times executive League table."
